AMEX Ascent or Qantas Frequent Flyers?

31st of March is approaching and the decision still remains in the air. Transfer the AMEX card points to Frequent Flyers or keep them on the Ascent Membership rewards? I've tried to figure out which is more generous but my feeling is that Qantas is going to be less generous soon with the FF points... what do you think?

Free Qantas Frequent Flyer LIFETIME Membership - till 31st Mar 09

If you hurry you can get Free membership into Qantas Frequent Flyers program. There has been some reshuffling of credit card access to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and it seems to have made Qantas unsure whether people will be sticking around with them after the 31st march deadline.

How to benefit from this? Well, Qantas is offering from now until the 31st March, Free Membership into the Qantas FF which lasts a lifetime. You are saving $82.50 joining fee which everyone until now had to pay.

To take advantage of this offer, follow this link and make sure you transfer some loyalty points in before 31 March 2009.

Watch out for MobileRewardz - premium SMS scam

There are quite a few websites around that offer different things and the common denominator for them all is that in the terms and conditions they mention that you will receive something called a Premium SMS. These are SMS that you receive and every time you receive one you get billed on your mobile bill $2.5 - $10 every time!!! When you agree to sign up to the website and give them your mobile, you agree you will be billed for these premium sms.

But how can someone charge me for recieving an sms? Good question.. but they can. There are arrangements with Optus, Virgin, Telstra, Vodafone and Three which allow these third parties to bill you for these Premium SMS.

Example - MobileRewardz.com.au

Fly to Adelaide return for the cost of a taxi to airport

We are officially in a recession now and you can either cry about it or take advantage of the recession. One of the sweet things is the demand elasticity of air fares. Tiger airways is offering flights to Adelaide from Perth for just over $50 return!!  That is absolutely crazy! Apparently people are not keen on flying out of Perth in March this year.. so who's taking advantage of this deal?

Edit: The next day, Tiger had the same route at $300 return!!! Gotta be quick or you miss out on deals like this!

Bankwest customers now have FREE access to all Commonwealth ATMs

Following the takeover by Commonweath Bank of Bankwest, one good thing comes out of it for Bankwest customers. From 1 March, 2009 Bankwest customers are now able to use any Bankwest or Commonwealth Bank ATMs without incurring any ATM fees - that means access to over 4,000+ ATMs nationwide.  Fee-free agreements with Westpac, Bank of Queensland and Bank of South Australia (eg when you travel to other states) are not valid from 1 March onwards.
